Let's do business

Let's do business done our organisation a good turn. We made contact with some great new suppliers and also signed up a few new clients. For those that don't know, let's do business is a business networking event held in Hastings and is setup by 1066 Sussex Enterprise. What struck me the most is the diversity of businesses and how sole traders and multi-million pound high-tech companies were showcasing their wares side by side.

The idea is to bring companies together, showcase technology, raise awareness of start-ups, strike deals and generally join the Hastings business community.

Hastings is most definitely changing. There were many manufacturing companies present, the ever popular Carr Taylor, Showman AV with his stunning LCD televisions, a 3D animation and design company called Nemesis CGI Ltd who create awesome 3D rendered models using Lightwave 3D, Glass and Mirror Designs who create fantastic mirror and windows effects, an IT company called Trilobyte Technologies Ltd who offer remote IT management, a balloon decoration service called A Day To Remember that offer amazing balloon creations for all occasions and many, many more.

What did concern me was the fact that all the car parking spaces were full with stand holders and there wasn't any room for visitors. One visitor we spoke to said that a guy at the door said "sorry, no more room, you'll have to go". I can't believe that a town with a multi-million pound, 8 year regeneration plan is hosting a business networking event of this scale and they're turning people away. I do hope that someone give him a clip round the ear. How can such a major event be scuppered by some idiot in a yellow coat turning people away. So there's no parking, at least educate yourself with the knowledge required to deal with it, such as alternative places. It was surely forseeable as there are only so many places and at least 3 times the visitors so hadn't someone thought of that?

That aside, it was generally deemed a success and seeing some faces to people I speak to on the phone was a great help. Creating stronger industry links is what it's all about. Our little seminar we gave also seemed to go quite well too. I hadn't prepared anything to say but my colleague running the presentation pulled me up and got the audience going about the book I wrote which arrived by the very tightest of times. Search engine optimisation is an arguable subject so no doubt as people walk away with my book I'll start to get some feedback, comments and hopefully some alternative points of view on the subject to give me something to ponder.

If you're a Hastings based company, even Sussex really as companies came as far away as Worthing, then find out more about the exhibition at the Let's do business website. Prices suit the small businesses, sole trader etc and there's fun to be had on the day too such as winning bubbly for the fastest lap at Brands Hatch on Toca Racing which was setup on a high end PC and plasma display by Astec Computing, a leading end to end IT solution provider based in Hastings.
