Toshiba Portege 3110CT Bootdisk
Published: October 6, 2005
If your Toshiba Portégé 3110CT is in need of a bootdisk you may have found that it's a bit of a problem finding the drivers to access the CDROM. The "oakcdrom.sys" driver that comes with most bootdisks doesn't work.
What you need is the "arccd.sys" driver and some amendments to the "config.sys" and "autoexec.bat" files. Fortunately, I've already sorted and zipped it ready to go.

Thanks for the info. Is there any way to install an OS on this laptop without a floppy drive OR a network adapter? I have an external USB CD-ROM drive but cannot get it to boot.
Also, how do you enter the BIOS on this Toshiba???
Thank you!

I have the same problem, only i am trying to boot from either a PCMCIA cd-rom drive or a USB flash drive, i enter setup by pressing F1 while it is booting. i have heard that it ranges from system to be escape, F12, or delete. I have also read that on some Portege 3110CT systems, you can press "p" for booting from PCMCIA, "n" for booting from network, and "u" for booting from usb, while the computer boots, however, none of these methods has worked for me

i'm having this same issue with the 3480ct model, and i also only have a usb and pcmcia...
will this boot disk work on mine if i put it on my mp3 player and boot through my usb??
Andrew says:
To access the bios hold the escape key when booting , and as for booting from USB - It appears to be impossible - but if i do find out how to do it on the 3110ct - ill add a post
Email me for an update if ya like

Hi,
I was given a Portégé 3110CT with the restore CDs, but not with a floppy drive, and the HD is formatted! Do you know of any way of accessing the CDROM to boot from without using a floppy?
Thanks,
mark

I have a circa 1999 3110CT. It has XP pro on the hard disk, which is horrendous in view of its 128MB of RAM. So I am trying to install Puppy Linux. In case anyone is facing the same, here are my findings to date.
I downloaded a copy of Puppy 2.15CE ISO and burnt the ISO to a CD. I have checked this live CD in another machine an it boots linux fine. The old Toshiba PMCIA CD wont boot a CD, so I used Wakepup2 floppy which boots from the floppy and then "finds" the CD and initiates the boot process from the CD.
At the moment, this process is failing. The CD is found, and starts up, and runs the early stages of the Linux installation. This confirms that the wakepup 2 floppy and CD are working fine, but the Puppy linux is falling over. Bearing in mind this is a state of art linux on a 8 year old laptop, its hardly surprising. However, hopefully there are some elements of what I have written above that might help someone. When I get Puppy running properly I will provide more info here.

Hello! I tried the boot disk on dos but it doesn't work.
With that config:
device=fcpoint.exe/SA/fA:\fcpoint.int/P:320
(at this step the CD-Rom lights and turn) but
"PCCARD not initialized"
device=fcatapi.sys/D:MSCD001/P:320
(at this step "No drive found")
I tried all the possible drivers
I have a NinjaATA PCCARD and a Teac 224 PE CD-Rom
Autoexec is with MSDEX.exe/D:MSCD001
Thanks if you can help me.

alas, booting from a USB drive is the still unseen Holy Grail with this thing. Only directions on how to boot from the USB drive are the only thing standing between this 3110CT and Ubuntu.
Hi, thanks for putting the portege bootdisk on here. only problem is I can't get it to see that it is a boot disk. any ideas? Thanks in advance for your help.
