Don't forget the rest

AltaVista, AskJeeves and meta search services such as DogPile. Many millions of users search via tools such as these and ensuring coverage here is essential to any successful online marketing campaign.

Re: Don't forget the rest

What has happened to ask? since they have been taken over they do not appear to include new sites- has anyone else had this experience? Older clients seem to value this search engine as I  suspect they were used to using it themselves, probably due to the T.V. advertising of a few years ago.
They want to know why they are not listed.

Re: Don't forget the rest

The Ask Webmaster section covers most of the issues with getting listed with them. Basically, the same rule applies with Ask as it does with the others. Get plenty of inbound links and it will find you.

It does appear that there is no formal way to submit though. Perhaps someone else knows of a submission form for them but I couldn't find one. Crawling makes more sense though as it means sites are linking in which is a leading ranking factor for most search engines.

Re: Don't forget the rest

When they got taken over they dropped sponsored links and site submissions.
If you root around you will find someone advising you to email them direct giving them your url. Done that without effect.
BTW-I have been using Dogpile.com since mid-nineties and always found it better than the rest.
