Duplicated Sites an advantage in Google?
Hi,
in looking at some competition, I have come across a site that has an exact duplicate at yahoo.stores.net, many of the images and a search facility are linked to it.
The site rides high for several very competitive search terms and was wondering if this could be the reason.
Thanks.

Re: Duplicated Sites an advantage in Google?
If the site is an exact duplicate, I believe that Google and any other search engine will try and remove any duplicates and only index one of the sites. After all, Google wants to have the best search results. Duplicate sites are not what it wants.
On the other hand, a lot of ecommerce sites have 'duplicate products' because the product text is often copied direct from the product literature. I wouldn't class these as exact duplicates since the rest of the site is often different, to a degree.

Re: Duplicated Sites an advantage in Google?
Hi,
I don't know too much about yahoo stores,
Have a look at ;
http://g?twickhiredrive.stores.yahoo.net/ind.html
and;
http://www.g?twickhiredrive.com
(?=your nearest airport)
The sites are identical, but are they just a spin off site?.
Cheers.

From what I understand, it is spam, and yes, it will be treated as spam.
If you are not intending to spam, why are you deliberately setting up duplicate sites?

Re: Duplicated Sites an advantage in Google?
Creating duplicates serves no beneficial purpose, Google will rank the one with the highest authority.

Re: Duplicated Sites an advantage in Google?
Google has been tightening up against duplicate content.
Once there were thousands of directories which cloned data from Dmoz with identical content. Getting into dmoz automatically gave you thousands of backlinks.
But now Google has removed all these directories, and their PR value.
