Has google's ranking criteria changed?
I have been trying to get a first page result for a site for the last six months. It had a PR of 3/10 and now has a PR of 0/10 from the latest crawl. Did it drop into oblivion? No, it is now around no. 6 out of 500,000, jumping up 14 places.
In fact the latest crawls seem to have devalued the PR to almost all of my sites but the rankings have not suffered or have gained.
There are sites with 4/10 PR far below me.

Re: Has google's ranking criteria changed?
That's pretty much the pattern I've been seeing with several of my clients recently. The instability is getting worse so either Google are slacking on the filters and forever twiddling with them or they are deliberately making it harder to SEO against them. Even my recent bounce effect article is starting to look dated.
As for PR, it's a very vague indicator that doesn't directly translate to rank which is why I gave up chasing PR a long time ago. It's still good to see the odd bit of green though, just to keep being sure Google knows you exist.
