Sliding rankings for specific search terms

Hello

Thanks to Ed's great advice my site www.justdresses.co.uk has ranked first for its main search term in Google for over 6 months which I am very pleased about of course.  But now I have noticed that my ranking for very specific search phrases, in my case makes of clothing, is going down rapidly and instead of being near the top of the first page as before, I am sliding down to the 3rd page.

I know that when the site was new, Google let me have high rankings for specific terms but not general terms.  Is there any way of having both or am I being greedy?

Many thanks for any tips.

Re: Sliding rankings for specific search terms

Optimisation comes in two parts:

- Internal Factors: These are elements you have control over such as your sites structure and on page factors. By on page factors we mean Title tweaks, H1 headings, use of copy etc.

- External Factors: This is primarily links to your site.

I'm assuming that internal factors have been taken care of as this should be the first part of any optimisation. In your case therefore what I would suggest is to investigate link building to the pages that have been slipping down the rankings here is a quick handy guide that should help you get started: http://www.jimwestergren.com/link-building-guide/
